I made this Studio Quilt especially for the above exhibition, and chose to work with the heading of ‘mapping’ in the broadest sense of the word, using my own personal interpretation, and generally being ‘in touch’ with the landscape, turning it into a reality, after studying a map of the area.
I visited the extraordinary place of Applecross, situated on the North West coast of Scotland – a small community tucked away on the coast behind some spectacular rocky mountains. The view from the top, before descending, is an amazing sight.
I have absorbed some of the visual & spiritual qualities from this landscape, to work with, combining it with my love of textiles, choosing transparent layers of cloth, paint, tones, stitch, collage and line drawing with stitch, and remained ‘in touch’ with the quilt, as it developed. |
